House of Santal’s debut exhibition, Edition I: AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE COURTYARD, was unveiled at a private opening reception hosted at our Manhattan gallery on February 18.

We’re grateful to our guests for celebrating this moment with us and making it a spectacular evening dedicated to celebrating South Asian collectible design.
Curated as a journey, with a series of smaller vignettes that are each anchored in a unique narrative, this exhibition highlights the context and lineage behind our heritage works.

We are proud to feature: AMH, Arisaa, Artisanal Abode, Beyond Dreams, Chacko, Design Ni Dukaan, Harshita Jhamtani, Karan Desai, Pieces of Desire, Rhizome, Sage Living, Studio Nyn, The Vernacular Modern, Rugs courtesy of Rug and Kilim.

House of Santal’s mission is to champion South Asian design, bringing the talented artisans and designers who have been behind some of the world’s most famous design houses to the forefront. Our featured designers are making waves in the realm of collectible objects and furniture from the subcontinent; taking legacy crafts and heritage techniques and reimagining them for the modern curator.

Pallavi Goenka is one such designer, creating bespoke mirrors and handles which feature incredibly intricate and longstanding techniques of workmanship. This includes Tarkashi inlay work, involving the meticulous placement of fine metal wires onto wood to create geometric and floral patterns.
